Our Why

THE COURTNEY COPELAND MEMORIAL FOUNDATION is a 501(c)3 charitable organization that was started May 2018 by Shapearl Wells, after the death of her son, Courtney Copeland to gun violence. Mrs. Wells decided that she would not sit idly by and allow gun violence to ruin the city she loved. She did not want another mother to experience the loss of a child, as she had. With that in mind, The Courtney Copeland Memorial Foundation was started.

The Courtney Copeland Memorial Foundation is a tax exempt, 501(c)3, non-profit organization.
